Kill Game5 Stars!Kill Game is the ultimate whodunnit, keeping me guessing the entire time.Be warned, although I wouldn’t consider this a traditional cliffhanger, the story is not complete by the end of book 1. This is one of those series that gives us just enough closure to feel comfortable with the ending but still crave book two to see if the mysterious killer will finally be revealed. Generally I’m not a fan of reading this type of series until all books have been published and I can binge read them. However I can’t even pretend I didn’t love Kill Game. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a great mystery story.Las Vegas Detective Levi Abrams is one of those characters that really makes you think. He’s a great Detective, completely dedicated to his job and to justice. He’s a good guy but many find him a tad abrasive and unapproachable. I personally found his prickly personality more endearing than anything and I really enjoyed the fact that his character just seemed so real. Between his past that offered us insight to his vulnerability and the whys behind his guarded nature and his current relationship with his billionaire boyfriend, we really got to see all the different sides of him.Bounty hunter/Bail Enforcement Officer Dominic was easy to fall in love with. He was a winning combination of strong, dangerous and sexy yet also funny, sweet and easygoing. He wasn’t the typical almost exaggerated Alpha powerhouse bordering on superhuman so many authors like to create. He was very realistic with faults and fears that made him so much more interesting.The two men had wonderful chemistry and I adored them together. They just fit one another from the beginning. I loved how the author was sensitive to the fact that Levi was with Stanton and so the relationship between Levi and Dominic moved a slow place and really only became something when Levi and Stanton broke up. I liked Stanton, even if he wasn’t a good fit for Levi and I didn’t want to see Levi and Dominic become sleepy by carrying on an elicit relationship.As for the actual plot, “Well Done!†I love the fact that this was truly a mystery. The book didn’t put the story on the back burner while we read about Dominic and Levi. The hunt for the serial killer was always at the forefront and was carefully done as to not give anything away before it was necessary for us to know.The writing was great and the pacing of the story was well done. This is definitely a series I have become instantly in awe of.
The more I love a book, the longer it takes me to write a review, and sometimes I just don't get back to it. My apologies to the author (an other authors).I finished book 2 early this morning, and wanted more Dominic and Levi, so I've spent a lazy Sunday rereading book 1. I honestly thought I'd posted a review. Oops. Anyway, the second time through is every bit as good.The plot and the writing are so tight; it's amazing. I am awed by authors who can write mysteries, rolling out clues little by little, letting the reader experience the MCs' thought processes as they work to solve individual cases while the Seven of Spades serial killer is part of everything.And these MCs...wow! I love the respect they have for each other, and their attraction to each other. The secondary characters are also interesting, and real characters, not just props used to propel a MC forward. I want to know more about Carlos and Jasmine, Martine and her family, Rebel (yeah, a dog, but very much a part of the series), and the families. I hope the moms meet at some point - great possible scenes there! LOL!Highly recommend!Yes, this is a series, so no one should be surprised that the mystery isn't solved. Personally, I can wait because I'm confident that Dominic and Levi will catch the serial killer AND have their happily ever after. And the writing is SO good, I might reread the series from the beginning every time a new part is released!ðŸ˜
I can't believe I have to wait until January 29th for the next installment in this series! The ONLY positive thing about that is that my birthday is the 28th, so....Happy BIrthday to ME! Lol! This book is very well thought out. The plot, characters, setting, crimes, sexual tension and actual good reasoning for the main couple to be a couple, hotness, friends and foes and obstacles for the protagonists...each box is checked off. This author didn't miss a thing! This book does have a bit of a cliffhanger. It seems like so many people don't like them, but I'm the opposite... I LOVE them. I think this book ended perfectly, but do want to encourage this author to continue with cliffhangers in this series. And I really believe that if you're brave enough to do a cliffhanger ending...Go Big Or Go Home with it...lol! I would LOVE a really major cliffhanger in this series....so I'll cross my fingers! :) AWESOME READ - HIGHLY RECOMMENDLin Loves Romance
This is a terrific m/m romance that has a fast paced edge of your seat mystery. C. Kingsbridge was a new author to me. I was engaged in the book from the first few pages and then spent the much of the book trying to guess the identity of the Seven of Spades killer. The mystery was just the kind of whodunit that keeps you glued to the page. As we get to know the two main characters, personalities emerge, both of them are vulnerable in different ways, some yet to be revealed.I liked Dominic alot, he is big, really big with a teddy bear heart, and Levi is a bit of a neurotic complex character who I think still has a lot of layers for the reader to discover.The one aspect of the story that I didn't care for is just a personal tick of mine.. I wish that D & L had more time in between them getting intimate and Levi's break up with a very long term boyfriend, less than 24 hours had my negative meter chiming.But this certainly won't prevent me from rooting for this couple and looking forward eagerly to the next installment. I can't wait. I have a feeling that Cordelia Kingsbridge is going to become and auto buy for me, and those authors are few and far between.
