Amazon.com Review

Q & A with author Cynthia Stackpole Snyder Cynthia Stackpole Snyder What led you to write this book? A few years ago I was looking through the PMBOK Guide trying to figure out how to create a form for one of the processes, and I realized that it wasn’t that easy. I thought that it would be really helpful if there were forms that went with the PMBOK Guide so it would be easy to implement the processes described in the guide. You can get a lot of different forms for managing projects, but I knew it would be most helpful if there was a set of forms that was specifically aligned with the acknowledged standard for project management. Why is there a new edition of the Book of Forms? The Book of Forms updates in conjunction with the PMBOK Guide. Because the PMBOK Guide is now in the Fifth Edition, and there are substantial changes from the Fourth Edition, the Book of Forms needed to be updated to align with the latest edition to keep the content fresh. Why do professionals need a book like this? I think this book makes it easy for project managers who are operating in an organization without a lot of existing templates to organize and document information necessary to effectively manage their projects. I think these forms can be especially helpful for new project managers who don’t have a good grasp on how to organize their thoughts and the work of the project team. More experienced project managers will want to tailor the forms to meet their specific needs. The forms are very easy to tailor; I tailor them frequently when I manage projects. Why is the new Project Manager’s Book of Forms a must-have book? There is a form in here for every plan and key output in the PMBOK Guide. Why spend the time and effort creating your own version of forms when there is a one-stop book that has over a hundred pages of forms to help manage projects? This book can save time and effort, and help people do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.

I like what he did with this book. It is a great reference for someone studying for their PMP exam and wants to see what the different documents look like and contain. Maybe not the best for professional business forms, but he markets it as a reference to PMBOK 6 which it does and excellent job of. I'm pleased with my purchase and am sure you will to.

I am glad that PMI finally pulled together a companion guide to the PMBOK. The content is valid and adequate but the format and the appearance is very disappointing. Although the title of the book states "FORMS" I was expecting a more professional looking set of templates that could be modified to include a company name and logo. These are very basic forms that have no headers, footers or margins. The border around each page prohibits you from expanding a certain text box to accommodate more text without corrupting the entire page formatting. The book shows each form with instructions inside each field to be completed; however that information is not included in the electronic copy. If you needed to assign this form to someone else to complete, it would be a challenge to complete it correctly without guidance.Aesthetically they look like a "pen and ink" fill in the blank form from the 1970's and not like something that was created in a robust word processor such as WORD. They are a good guide for content, but not immediately usable.

It was cheaper to buy this book from Amazon instead of the Project Management Institute--(PMI), "Even for PMI Members", after postage. Amazon also "has" customer service, so where to buy this is was a no brainer. Many of the forms in the book are just a series of empty blocks with section headers from the Project Management Book of Knowledge, PMI's (PMBOK 4th) Edition. So the offered forms are often rudimentary. So if the purchaser is savvy to PMI and PMBOK and looking for a baseline book of forms for a project management program, this is it. This is a great place to start that journey of developing forms for your Program Management Office (PMO), congratulations to Ms Stackpole and team!Lastly, The price of the book felt egregious, but of course that is a matter of perspective.

This book is a giant leap forward in that it presents, for the first time, a complete set of forms required to run a project using the process put forward in PMBOK 4. But don't think for a moment it will solve all your project template issues.Where the book is strong is that it helps you identify the core fields that need to be included in a template. It is thus a useful check for making your own template. But you will need to use this base and apply this to your specific environment. The templates have very limited formatting and to simply use them in the current state would not help you in presenting yourself as a professional PM. But then it would be impossible for the book to cater for all CI requirements so maybe the KISS offering is most appropriate. This review would have served its purpose if it helps in managing stakeholders expectations from the book. And we all know, managing stakeholders¡¦ expectations is a major part of any project. The good news is that the book has some useful templates on this very topic. :-)So, in conclusion, this book is a good start but don¡¦t think you are buying a readymade solution. Rather view it as a useful starting point to generate your own templates. Expect a solution on the plate and you will rate the book a 1 start, expect a useful start and you will give it a 5 start. If (like me) you don't do any research before buying the book, it¡¦s a 3 star.

Few good ideas about form stiles and some follow-up system but most new accounting systems come with requiere templets. As non'profit oficial organization I was hoping for ideas to manage step by step evens with action delegations and more people management as well help on budgeting.

I bought this product because it advertised that you could use the forms as is or down;load from the companion website and tailor to your project's unique needs. The advertisement also says to "customize each form to suit each projects needs". I downloaded the forms after purchasing the book, and you can not customize them, you can only use them as is.

This is exactly what I needed. I’m studying for the PMP and got most of my studying done and then received this book and it’s like Cliff Notes with brief descriptions of what each form is used for and why it’s needed. It’s prefect for someone someone who just wants additional material to review and the forms are just really nice to have now before my exam and in my future PMP job.

Highly recommend getting this book. The forms save you a lot of time if you just want to instantaneously have a form to start with, revise, and just hit the ground running with managing a project. Plenty of good templates.
